The 8th Wonder of the World

The lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and granite towers of Chile’s Torres del Paine are a wonder to behold. Described as the “8th Wonder of the world, it follows right behind the famous 7 wonders of the world. Of course, there are so many of these world wonder lists, that it can be exhausting to follow along. Still, the sights of Torres del Paine may be just enough to win you over.

This wonder of the world received more than 5 million votes on VirtualTourist.com. It beat over 300 different entries from 50 countries around the world. Torres del Paine is 935 square miles, and features myriad trails and mountain peaks. The highest point reaches 9,462 feet. This is a hot spot for hikers and last year alone it had over 139,000 hiking visitors.

The hope now is that more tourists will keep Chile and Torres del Paine on their radar. The National Park staff believe this is the recognition they need to make their attraction bring in more money and tourists. Chile is one of those South American countries that largely goes unnoticed. Famous for the incredibly long coastline and emerging wine and vineyard scene, Chile is slowly becoming one of the best new hotspots of the Americas.
