Renewing your passport online is a misnomer, since you cannot renew passport online.
You can complete the US passport forms online, but you must forward your expired passport, new passport photos, and the passport application.
There is no such thing as a process to renew passport online. You will have to mail in your documents.
There are two ways to renew a passport.
- Option #1: The first US passport renewal is routine processing. This process takes between 4-6 weeks at your local passport acceptance facility. The passport acceptance agent may even be your local post office.
- Option #2: The second option is to expedite your passport renewal. Passport expediting can be done through your local passport acceptance facility or a private passport expediting service.
Important to realize, the second option above is not an option to renew passport online, but rather a 3-week expedited service through the actual U.S. Department of State. However, if you need to expedite your US passport application faster than 3 weeks, please see Expedited Passport Renewals.
In short, a private expeditor company that is registered with the U.S. Department of State can expedite your passport renewal in 2 weeks or less – sometimes as quickly as 24 hours. PassportsOnline.ORG recommends doing research to find a trustworthy and dependable expediting company.
Additional Passport Renewal Information
As stated above, online passport renewal is not technically all online. While you can gather your passport documents online, you will ultimately need to mail them in to the U.S. Department of State.
Another important point to make is you will NOT need an appointment if you are using a private passport expeditor. To “renew passport online” and save time, you may use a passport expeditor and renew your passport much faster.
