Proof of Travel Plans
Important to realize, the U.S. Department of State requires Proof of Travel Plans for all expedited passports EXCEPT for expedited adult passport renewal applications.
To determine the passport for which you are applying, please use our simple passport flow chart.
First thing to remember, you must prove your international travel within 14 days of your application submission. Therefore, you must provide 2 copies of 1 of the following acceptable travel documents below.
Acceptable Proof of Foreign Travel:
- Flight itinerary.
- Hotel reservation.
- Travel itinerary from a travel agent or online booking (E-Ticket).
- Cruise tickets.
- Business letter from your employer. For example, click the link for a sample business letter.
- For the most part, the U.S. Department of State accepts business letters on a case-by-case basis. Accordingly, we always recommend having a confirmed travel itinerary or hotel confirmation. Also, include travel dates in the business letter.
By and large, passport agencies will require a printed version of your proof of travel.
IMPORTANT: Finally, your proof of travel plans must go inside of the hand-carry envelope when you appear at the passport acceptance facility.
For Employment or Identification Purposes
Given that cannot expedite a passport exclusively for your job or potential employment opportunities, you must still provide proof of travel to expedite. In fact, this is a government requirement. Therefore, you should include flight itinerary or e-tickets. If you cannot provide either one, your business letter must be very specific with travel dates. Also, be sure to sign and submit your draft on official business letter head.
