What You Need to Travel the World

Many people have a lifelong dream of traveling the world. The exotic appeal of quitting your mind-numbing job and selling all your worldly possessions to wander the beaches of Southeast Asia is a common theme for many cubicle warriors. Or maybe you’ve always dreamed of a few weeks away from your everyday life, drifting throughout South America or adventuring on an African Safari.

What You Need to Travel the World

The ability to make this happen is much different from the desire to make it happen. But if you have the desire to do it, you can. And surprisingly, it doesn’t take much to travel the world.

A lot of people dream of traveling the world, but not many people do it. Sure, there’s always an excuse, but all excuses  and problems can be overcome with enough motivation. Simply put, motivation breeds success. You just have to want it more than your excuses can handle.

How much money should you bring? Well, that depends on the time you want to be away, where you want to go, and how you want to travel. It is often said that you should pack up everything you think you’ll need for your trip, get rid of half of it, and take twice as much money. The truth is, your money will likely go a lot further overseas if you do your pre-travel research. Also, traveling and living like a local is a great way to legitimately save money. For example, renting an apartment in Paris and cooking most of your meals will give you a unique local experience while also affording you a chance to save money in an expensive locale.

If you have time, you likely don’t have much money. Conversely if you have lots of money, you likely don’t have a lot of time. This is a great conundrum of life. However, time is the most important resource you have in your life. This will likely be the greatest hurdle to overcome, but just know that once you’re already overseas, the hardest part is over. You’ll never look back on your life and regret spending your time on travel.

What you bring while traveling is entirely dependent on your own wants and needs, and also on your trip. What you need for four days is all you need for several months. Also, remember that wherever you go, you’ll be able to buy whatever you need. If you’re going to a cold climate, you can pick up sweaters and coats there. Don’t make the rookie mistake of overpacking. Again, pack what you think you’ll need and only take half of that. Less is more here.

You’ll also need your passport. This is the most vital document you will possess on your travels. Without your passport, you will not be able to travel overseas. Keep your passport on you at all times and know where your nearest embassy or consulate is in every country you visit. Also, make sure you email yourself a copy of your passport and it’s also a good idea to have a paper copy of you passport in the event that your passport is lost or stolen. It will help expedite the replacement process.

What You Need to Travel the World

Traveling the world doesn’t have to be a once in a lifetime experience. It takes a lot less money and time than you may think. Make a plan, read other travelers stories, get inspired, grab your passport, and hit the road! A great adventure awaits!
