Presently, routine passport processing ranges from 4 weeks, and up to 6-8 weeks or longer if there are any issues with your passport application. Though, you’ll need to wait between 7 to 10 days after you submit your passport application to check passport status.
How to Check Passport Status
ATTENTION: Importantly, you will need to have your social security number handy in order to use the Check Passport Status systems.
Fortunately, you can check the status of your US passport application online or by phone. Also, be prepared to provide the following information:
- Last name (i.e., include suffixes and hyphens, as appropriate.
- Date of birth.
- Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.
To check passport status online, visit the Online Passport Status System.
Hours of Operation:
- Monday-Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET.
- Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm. ET.
Have Yet to Receive Your Passport?
If you have not received your passport after 10 business days, but the Online Passport Status System indicates your new passport was mailed out, please complete a Statement of Non-Receipt of a U.S. Passport (Form DS-86) and contact the National Passport Information Center.
NOTE: In the event you do not report the missing passport to your Passport Acceptance Agent within 90 days, you must reapply and pay all applicable passport fees again.
US Passport Expediting Service
Finally, you may not need to check passport status if you are using a private passport expediting service, as you will likely receive your US passport within 2 weeks or even as fast as 24 hours. However, you can check the status of your US passport or contact your passport expeditor to get more assistance.
