“I Can’t Find My Passport…” That’s one sentence you never want to say or hear. So what do you do when you can’t find your passport? Is your passport lost? Is your passport stolen? Without your valid passport, you will not be able to travel internationally, so any travel plans are quickly ruined. If you are already overseas and you can’t find your passport, you will need to know your options.
How to Replace a Lost of Stolen Passport
The process is the same if your passport was lost or stolen. You will need to notify the U.S. government that your passport is missing. If you are currently overseas, please visit the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy. They will be able to assist you with the process and they can also issue you a temporary emergency passport.
If you do not have travel plans, then you may not need to replace your lost or stolen passport right away. We recommend beginning the process sooner than later however. The routine processing for a lost or stolen passport is 4-6 weeks. Please allow for the full 6 weeks in the event there are any delays.

How to Replace a Lost or Stolen Passport Fast!
If you have travel plans within the next few weeks, you will need to expedite your lost or stolen passport replacement. You can expedite through the U.S. Government for service that takes about 3 weeks. If you need a passport faster than 3 weeks, you have two other options. The first option is to try and make an appointment at a local Regional Passport Agency. They are only in major cities and some are not open to the public. Please call ahead first. If you do get an appointment, please make sure you bring all of the correct paperwork and documents as your application will be denied if anything is missing or wrong.
The second option to replace a lost or stolen passport fast is to use a registered expeditor. A registered expeditor is a private company that can replace a lost or stolen passport in 24 hours if necessary. This comes at an additional cost, but if you have travel plans within two weeks, you’ll likely want to use this method.
“I Can’t Find My Passport” is a scary thing to have to say, but it doesn’t have to crush your travel plans. Review your options and choose the right method of service for you. If you have any questions, drop us a line and we can help!
